Fall is fast approaching, and for many of our Trilogy communities, this means that the weather will start cooling off and it will feel lovely to be outside again. For other communities, it will be sweater time before we know it. In either case, fall is the perfect time to find a new outdoor activity, or to reacquaint yourself with a favorite activity from years past.
Here’s a look at just a few of the outdoor activities that our Trilogy members are passionate about. To find out which of these activities are happening at your community, simply visit the Clubs page of MyTrilogyLife.com to find an organized group, or check the Events calendar on MTL to find out if these activities are on the schedule. If you don’t yet have these activities at your community, talk with your Activity Director about the process for starting a new club. Before long, you’ll be connecting with fellow members who share your love of cycling, hiking, golf, softball, bocce, tennis, pickleball, or anything under the sun!
Activity: Cycling
Why We Love It: We’ve been doing it since we were toddlers on tricycles, and still love the feeling of the wind in our hair with the open road ahead of us.
In addition to being lots of fun, regular cycling provides increased muscle tone and bone mass improvement. Cycling is not only an excellent cardiovascular exercise, but it can also be therapeutic for the mind and spirit. Even if you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, you’ll probably be surprised at how quickly this skill naturally comes back to you.
If you’re a member of Trilogy Central Coast, you may be interested in joining the Sunday Cycle Group. Trilogy has a great group of road bicyclists! The group likes to ride each Sunday, leaving the community at 8:00 a.m. for rides through San Luis Obispo County. Ride lengths can vary from 45 miles to 70 miles and most rides are out and back so each cyclist can choose to turn around at any point during the ride. If you would like more information or to join one of these Sunday rides, contact Trilogy Member David Esposto. (You can find his contact information in your community’s Member Directory on MTL.) All Trilogy members and friends are welcome

Activity: Hiking
Why We Love It: It gets us in touch with nature and doesn’t require any special equipment.
Hiking is a great way to take a break from the daily grind and appreciate the natural beauty around us. Take an hour – or several hours, depending on the hike – to head out on a trail, and by the time you return to the trailhead, you’ll not only have broken a sweat, you’ll most likely also feel refreshed and have a new perspective on the cares of the day.
If you’re a member of Encanterra, you may be interested in joining the Hiking Club of Encanterra. Just as this community is new, this club is also quite new, so club founder JR Scott encourages all of his neighbors who have an interest in hiking the local trails and paths to join him. The hikes are of various lengths and degrees of difficulty, so regardless of your hiking ability or fitness level, there will most likely be a perfect hike for you to join in the near future. So far, the group has explored the Wind Cave Trail, Lost Dutchman State Park, San Tan Mountain Regional Park, and the Superstition Mountains. To find out when the next hike will take place, please contact JR Scott. (You can find his contact information in your community’s Member Directory on MTL.)

Activity: Golf
Why We Love It: It’s a complex mix of challenge, frustration, satisfaction, and relaxation. Plus, it gives us a few uninterrupted hours to enjoy the company of our golfing buddies.
Even when using a cart throughout the round, you burn approximately 250 calories per hour while playing golf. When you add that to the mental health benefits of this game of strategy, and the social health benefits of several hours spent with friends, golf is one healthy game!
If you’re a member of Trilogy at La Quinta, there are a number of golf club options for you. TLQ has active Men’s 18-hole, Men’s 9-hole, Ladies’ 18-hole, and Ladies’ 9-hole Golf Clubs, which meet on a weekly basis throughout the year. As the club page of the Men’s 9-hole Club states, “Living on a beautiful golf course is reason enough to have a golf club.” Each of these clubs hopes to encourage more men and women to regularly enjoy the game of golf – whether they’re returning to the greens after many years away, or whether they’re swinging a club for the first time. To find the TLQ golf club that’s the best fit for you, visit the Clubs page of MTL to read each club description.

Activity: Slow-pitch Softball
Why We Love It: It’s a classic all-American pastime that gets our competitive juices flowing and gives us the chance to be team players.
Senior softball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country. There are leagues in every state and a very complete schedule of regional and national tournaments. There are many benefits to team sports, including the thrill of competing, the toning and cardiovascular exercise, and the chance to associate with fellow athletes. While the competition can be serious, the essential goal is for all players to have a good time.
If you’re a member of Trilogy Redmond Ridge, you may be interested in joining either the Trilogy Monarchs or the Trilogy Titans. Both of these teams are co-ed, slow-pitch softball teams, and while they enjoy playing competitively, they welcome any interested members to come out and try their hand at the game of senior softball. All “gentle” rules are explained and demonstrated to new members before playing, so even if you’re new to the game of softball, you’ll be able to pick the sport up quickly. The Monarchs, in particular, are hoping to build up their roster this year, so if you’d like to learn more about joining this team, please contact Lyle Hanson. (His contact information can be found in your community’s Member Directory on MTL.)
